The ITINÉRAIRES LIBERTÉ-PYRÉNÉES-EUROPE association at the Banyuls-sur-Mer symposium (October 2024)
On October 17 and 18, 2024, a major symposium was held in Banyuls-sur-Mer (Pyrénées-Orientales). The theme: "Les Passeurs et les évadés durant la Seconde Guerre mondiale" ("Smugglers and escapees during the Second World War").

16 contributors helped renew the history and historiography of escape networks to Spain, and the diplomatic stakes involved. The event was well attended, with 245 participants. In addition to the conferences, school workshops were organized around this theme.
A tribute was paid to historian Émilienne Eychéenne, who died in 2024. She was a pioneer in the study of crossings over the Pyrenees.
This event, of which our association was a partner, was organized by the Mission interdépartementale Mémoire de l'Occitanie, the Pyrénées-Orientales departmental service (Office national des combattants et des victimes de guerre) and the Centre départemental de la Mémoire 66.
Our Association's Scientific Advisory Board was represented by Robert Belot, Josep Calvet, Jean-Pierre Bobo and Claude Benet, who gave lectures. Josette DURRIEU closed the symposium with a presentation on the European Freedom Routes project.
