Every summer for the past 30 years, the association "Le chemin de la Liberté" de Saint-Girons en hashtag#Couserans has organized a four-day hashtag#sport and memorial walk along one of the most difficult escape routes of the 39-45 war, across the central Pyrenees to northern Spain, between Saint-Girons and Esterri d'Aneu.
It was the route most often used by smugglers, as the complexity and vastness of the terrain made it difficult for the occupying forces to monitor. A state-recognized memorial route, physically and emotionally demanding, when you imagine the difficult journey endured by families and individuals of all ages and abilities, fleeing for their lives.
This year's hike will take place from July 11 to 14.
