On Monday April 28, 2025, Josette Durrieu, secretary-manager, and Yoan Rumeau, president, represented the Itinéraires Liberté Pyrénées Europe at the French Senate, at the invitation of Mr. Bruno Favel, head of the World Heritage Mission at the French Ministry of Culture, and Mrs. Catherine Morin-Desailly, president of the Cultural Affairs Commission.

They spoke at the colloquium
"33 Council of Europe cultural itineraries at the heart of territories",
an event bringing together representatives of Council of Europe-labeled itineraries and institutions involved in promoting European heritage.

European recognition

Our delegation had the opportunity to present the Itinéraires Liberté Pyrénées Europe approach, and to exchange views with other itineraries recognized by the European Institute of Cultural Routes and the Council of Europe's Cultural Routes Program.

Among the personalities present, Mr. Rui Gomes, the new Executive Secretary of the Enlarged Partial Agreement on Cultural Routes, and Mr. Matjaž Gruden, Director for Democracy at the Council of Europe, expressed their interest in our project, praising its historical, territorial and civic significance.

"Our itineraries are not only paths of remembrance; they are also driving forces for our territories and living spaces of European culture."
Josette Durrieu, Sénat, April 28, 2025
"The Itinéraires Liberté Pyrénées Europe are a reminder that local history can carry a universal message, that of freedom, remembrance and dialogue between peoples."
Yoan Rumeau, Senate, April 28, 2025
"The Council of Europe's cultural routes are bridges between cultures, paths of peace and dialogue."
Matjaž Gruden, Director for Democracy, Council of Europe.

🎯 This symposium was a wonderful opportunity to spread our commitment to memory, freedom and European cultural identity across the Pyrenees.
